Ernakulam Division tops in first premium collection

Kochi, Dec 14 (UNI) Ernakulam Division of Life Insurance Corporation retained the top spot in new business with a first premium collection of Rs 800 crore, among 105 divisions in the country.

Talking to newspersons here today, LIC Senior Divisional Manager, J Anil Kumar said the Division had sold 3,67,239 policies during the current fiscal year.

He said the Division had crossed 80.90 per cent of the targeted budget of Rs 955 crore in first premium and had set an ambitious target of Rs 1500 crore first premium income for the current fiscal.

The Division sold 2,56,267 ULIP policies for a total premium collection of Rs 765.53 crore, he added.

Mr Kumar said four more satellite offices had been opened in the Division for the collection of premium.

The Division would hand over a cheque of Rs two lakh from the LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation for the construction of a library room at the Government School at Mannarkad in Palakkad district, he added.

Reliance energy okays raising of $1.3 bn abroad

Mumbai Dec 14: Anil Ambani promoted power producing company, Reliance Energy Ltd today said that its board had approved raising upto Rs 5,000 crore ($1.3 billion) by way of foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCB) overseas. The company informed the Bombay Stock exchange that the board of directors of the company considered the proposal on December 12 and gave it a go ahead. Earlier this month, the company said the FCCBs would be issued at a premium to the prevailing market.....

9 policemen sentenced to 3 years' RI for custodial death

Nagpur, Dec 14 (UNI) The High Court here has convicted nine policemen for the custodial death in 1993 of a person arrested on mistaken identity, and sentenced them to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each, while acquitting the tenth accused policemen for lack of evidence. Ascetic, 2 others killed in Vindhyachal ashram

Mirzapur, Dec 14 (UNI) Three people were hacked to death by unidentified miscreants at an ashram in Vindhyachal area here late last night, police today said. The deceased included an ascetic Mauni Baba and his disciple Baburam, police said. The reason behind the murder was yet to be ascertained.
