Elaborate arrangements in place for Sunday polling

Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (UNI) The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair elections for the second phase of polls to the Gujarat Assembly on December 16 for which more than 50,000 security personnel have been deployed.

The commission has set up 20,545 polling stations in 95 constituencies, spread over 11 districts.

According to an official release, whereever necessary, micro-observers will monitor polling process and take appropriate action. Around 574 companies of Central Para-Miliatry foces will be deployed on these locations.

The commission has directed videographing at all stations.

In the second phase, 1.23 lakh state government officials will be deployed at 20,545 polling stations. 1.87 crore voters will decide the fate of candidates in 95 constituencies.

According to the Commission directive, voters will have to carry their election photo identity card but in case a voter has failed to get an identity card, the voter will be able to cast his vote by presenting any of the 14 identifications documents, recognised by the Commission.

Polling agents or voters won't be allowed to carry mobile phones inside polling booths. In case a person is found indulging in bogus voting or any such illegal activity, the presiding officer will immediately take action and hand him over to the police.

Persons, without any criminal cases and whose name figures in the voters list, will be allowed to be appointed as polling agents for the candidates.

Paint brushes racket busted; 2 arrested

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) A racket involved in the manufacture and sale of paint brushes made from mongoose hair was busted here with the arrest of two persons and 751 brushes worth Rs 2.5 lakh were recovered, police said today. On a tip-off that illegal trade was being carried out in Shastri Nagar area, the police recovered 360 brushes of different sizes and colours worth Rs 1.1 lakh in a raid on a shop and arrested its owner Ram Baksh.....

Police Recruitment scam: UP govt directed to file affidavit

Allahabad, Dec 14 (UNI) The police recruitment case hearing took a new turn today, when Allahabad High Court directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file an affidavit by December 19, disclosing the reasons for annulling the selection of over 22,000 IPS and other senior police officials. Crickiet costs dear for a 6-year old boy

Kendrapara, Dec 14 (UNI) Cricket costs dear for a 6-year-old child. Bunty, son of Satyabrata Muduli of Junapangara village under Rajnagar police station, yesterday lost his life while trying to fish out a cricket ball from a pond.
