Curtains dwon on Gujarat electioneering, polling Sunday

Ahmedabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Campaigning for the second and final phase of Gujarat Assembly elections, which saw political bigwigs flocking to Gujarat, ended today.

Polling for the remaining 95 constituencies of Central and North Gujarat will be held on December 16. The first phase of polling to 87 seats had taken place on Tuesday.

The last day of campaigning saw senior BJP leader L K Advani holding rallies in North Gujarat while Chief Minister Modi holding fort in Central Gujarat.

Congress 'yuvraj' Rahul Gandhi too held a roadshow in Vadodara which had hundreds of people joining it. BSP supremo Mayawati too did a last-minute whistle-stop tour of the region today.

Taking the boardroom way, Finance Minister P Chidambaram addressed a press conference, in which he criticised the Modi government for bad fiscal management.

Mr Advani too had started his day, addressing the media. He lambasted the Congress for its ''Modi hatao'' campaign and called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh a ''political novice''.

Three arrested in connection with gangrape

Jaipur, Dec 14 (UNI)The police today arrested all the three accused in the gangrape of a girl in a moving car last night. According to police sources the victim, an employee of Reliance Web in Tripolia Bazar, was offered lift by her colleague identified as Durgesh while she was waiting for transport last night. Lalu gets breather in fodder scam case till Jan 7

Ranchi, Dec 14 (UNI) Railway Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad today got a breather till January 7 in connection with Dumka treasury case, one of the multi-crore rupee fodder scam cases, unearthed in unified Bihar in 1990s. Thirteen get life imprisonment in murder case

Madhubani, Dec 14 (UNI) As many as 13 people were awarded life imprisonment by Fast Track courts in Bihar today. Fast Track court Judge Ravindra Nath Singh found nine people guilty of killing Harikrishna Singh, a native of Kaithahi village under Rajnagar police station in Madhubani district. According to the prosecuton, the victim was killed by the convicts inside the civil court premises here on August 22, 1986. In Banka another local Fast Track court awarded life imprisonment to four.....
