Country needs a youth like Sanjay Gandhi: Prem Singh

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Singh today said in today's scenario, the country needs the leadership of youth like the late Sanjay Gandhi.

Speaking after paying tributes to the late leader on his 61st Birth Anniversary at a function held at the Sai International Centre, organised by Sanjay Bal Vidyalaya, Ch Prem Singh said,''five programmes launched by him (Sanjay Gandhi) are now needed vEry much and the scientists and technologists are searching ways and means for the success of these programmes, whether they are tree plantations, forestry, preservation of environment or family planning.

''These programmes were of national importance that is why they are being implemented by all the Governments in the present day.'' On this occasion, he distributed residential plots to the residents of 44 Jhuggi jhompri colonies.

Abhishek to officiate in Beijing Olympics

Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) City boy Abhishek Mukherjee will have a presence in the Beijing Olympics tennis as umpire in the quadreinnial mega event. Talking to UNI, Mukherjee said, '' It is a great honour. The papers will be on their way. '' He also informed that he was heading to Australia towards the end of this month to officiate in Hoffman Cup, Sydney International Cup, followed by Australian Open. He had already officiated in Wimbledon, besides a host of satellite.....

Two wins each for Chandigarh FA, SSA Mizoram, LSC Meghalaya

PCB not satisfied with Lawson's performance

Lahore, Dec 14 (UNI) Pakistan coach Geoff Lawson today drew flake from PCB chief Nasim Ashraf who said the Australian was to be held responsible for Test and ODI series loss to arch rivals India. Captain Shoaib Malik though escaped much of the blame considering that he is new to the job and learning. Ashraf said the team's performance in India lacked spine and the cricketers were short of professionalism. ''The team was short on professionalism and responsibility for this lies.....
