Shimla, Dec 14 (UNI) Turning the tables on the BJP's poll plank of corruption ahead of the second phase of the state assembly elections, the Himachal Pradesh Congress today came out with details of the much talked about ''hard disk data'', allegedly containing the recommendations made by former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while in office.
State Animal Husbandry Minister Harsh Mahajan, who had opted out of the fray in these elections, released the details in a release here.
The release alleged that the private secretary of the then Chief Minister had given a statement to the police that ''people gave applications and chits to the Chief Minister for getting jobs. Their addresses and roll numbers were written on these chits and applications.'' According to the release, he had stated, ''The Chief Minister many a times wrote important, very important and very very important on these chits. He also received DO letters and recommendations for providing employment to his own candidates.'' Mr Mahajan said as per the details laid on the table of the House, a list of 2,415 candidates was recovered from one of the hard disks from Mr Dhumal's computer containing the recommendations made to different agencies.
During the last two years of his regime, 1,739 recommendations were made to the State Subordinate Services Selection Board, Hamirpur, and 192 to the State Cooperative Bank. As many as 517 TGTs and 316 school cadre lecturers were also recommended by him, he alleged.
The hard disk revelations showed that 98 recommendations were made to the Himachal Pradesh University for the appointment of clerks, lending credence to the interference of the Dhumal government with the autonomy of the highest educational institutions.
