Committees to probe issues related to remand home, jail

Patna, Dec 14 (UNI)Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today announced constitution of high level committee to probe reports of alleged prostitution in a remand home.

Intervening in the notice of RJD member Shyam Rajak during the Zero Hour in the state Assembly, Mr Kumar said after going through a news in a local daily regarding alleged prostitution, a three-member committee, comprising Divisional Commissioner,Patna, DIG Headquarters and Director Special Welfare had been formed to probe the matter. He said action would be taken against the guilty and steps initiated to streamline functioning of the remand home.

To another notice brought by RJD's Shakuni Choudhry about the ill treatment meted out to former legislators Akhlak Ahmad, Anand Mohan and Arun Kumar inside the jail, Mr Kumar said a high level committee had been constituted to review the existing jail manual and the reccomendations made by it would be implemented.

He said a senior officer of the prison department had been sent to the Bhagalpur jail to check facts and the situation in which the three prisoners were kept there.

Mr Kumar assured the members that the jail manual would be followed and court orders complied with at any cost.
