CM pays tributes to Potti Sreeramulu

Hyderabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today paid tributes to Potti Sreeramulu on the eve of his 55th death anniversary here.

Dr Reddy, in a message, said Sreeramulu, who had laid down his life for the formation of Andhra Pradesh, worked for the welfare of the downtrodden.

He had spent his entire life for promoting peace, non-violence and equality among all sections of the people, Dr Reddy said and added that Sreeramulu also fought for the eradication of social evils.

Principal Secretary to the government C R Biswal, in a statement, said two minutes' silence would be observed in the state at 1100 am tomorrow in memory of the great leader.

Karan, Rushmi top seeds in National Grasscourt Championships

Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) In the absence of the big guns, Karan Rastogi and Rushmi Chakravorthi will be top seeds in this year's National Grass courts Championships with a purse of Rs 4.5 lakhs to be played at the South Club from December 15 to 22. The main draw of the singles will be of 32, while the doubles will be of 16. While there will be 20 direct entries in the singles, there will be four wild cards and eight.....

Gurunanakdev, Osmania Universities advance in league matches

Guntur, Dec 14 (UNI) Gurunanakdev and Osmania Universities advanced in the womens section of league matches in the four-day all India Inter-Zonal Inter-university Netball tournaments here today. Guru Nanakdev university outplayed Pt Ravi Shankar Shukla University 41-36, while Osmania University trounced Bharathidasan University 56-31. In another match, hosts Acharya Nagarjuna University beats Annamalai University 50-17. Rousing reception to C'wealth Power Lifting Champion

Puducherry, Dec 14 (UNI) A rousing reception was accorded to K Masilamani(29), a fisherman youth from Vambakeerappalayam here, who bagged three gold medals and one silver medal in the Commonwealth Power Lifting Championship held in New Zealand recently. The villagers welcomed him with bands and fire works. Masilamani told newspersons that by bagging medals in 67.5 kg category lifting 640 kgs, he had brought laurels to Puducherry and the country as a whole. UNI.....
