CBDT chief to inaugurate induction course of IRS trainees 61st batch

Nagpur, Dec 14 (UNI) The induction course for the officer trainees of 61st batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) at the National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) will be inaugurated by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman R Prasad here tomorrow.

A A Wijepala, Commissioner General, Inland Revenue Department of Sri Lanka, would be the guest of honour, NADT Director General Saroj Bala told the media here yesterday. The new batch would be having 136 trainee officers, including 42 women and two from neighbouring Bhutan, she said.

The induction training would last for 16 months, during which they would be coached in income tax laws, tax administration,accountancy and management, Ms Bala said. NADT has trained several tax officers from other countries, including Bhutan and Sri Lanka, and similar courses for officials from Sudan,Bangladesh and Afghanistan are in the offing, she informed.

In fact, the Government of Sri Lanka has sent a proposal to NADT to help them set up a similar facility in that country, Ms Bala added.

Meeting to discuss financial assistance programme for Tribals

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) At the initiative of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) has convened a meeting of State Governments and its channelising agencies on December 17. The meeting will address issues related to its financial assistance programme for the benefit of tribals groups, including expansion of the coverage of the programme and making delivery system more effective. Beacon driver killed, five injured in Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 14 (UNI) A driver of Beacon project died and five others were injured in the Kashmir valley today, official sources said. They said a driver identified as Roshan Lal was found dead in his room at Lawaypora camp under suspicious circumstances. Police have registered a case and started investigation, they added. In another incident, five people, travelling in a car were injured when a tipper hit the car at Kralhar in Baramulla district. The injured were hospitalised. UNI.....

Honeymooning Pak bride lands in Agra jail

Agra, Dec 14: A starry-eyed Pakistani bride honeymooning in the Taj City has landed in an Agra jail for alleged breach of visa norms. The police produced the bride, Shaba Shehzadi, in a city court yesterday, which sent her to jail till December 24. Police today said British citizen of Pakistani origin Arif Butt had married Shaba recently and the newly-wed couple selected India for their honeymoon. While, Arif possessed an all-India visit visa, Shaba's visa was valid for Delhi.....
