BCCI revises Duleep Trophy schedule

Mumbai, Dec 14 (UNI) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revised the Duleep Trophy programme with a few changes being made to the venues for the matches.

The tournament, featuring the five zones and England Lions team, will be held in West Zone centres as scheduled from January 26 to February 23, 2008, according to BCCI's Cricket Operations manager Suru Nayak.

''But there are a few changes. The opening tie between North Zone and South Zone is to be held at Ahmedabad instead of Vadodara, the East vs South match has been shifted from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and the England Lions vs Central match has been moved from Mumbai to Vadodara,'' Nayak explained.

The revised schedule is: Jan 26-29, 2008: North Zone v South Zone at Ahmedabad; West Zone v Central Zone at Rajkot.

Feb 3-6: East v South at Mumbai; England Lions v Central at Vadodara.

Feb 11-14: North v East at Rajkot; England Lions v West at Vadodara.

Feb 19-23: Finals at Mumbai.

Bokaro Steel Plant's DGM died in accident

Bokaro, Dec 14 (UNI) A top official of Bokaro Steel Plant today died after falling into a coke oven in the plant this evening, official sources said. BSP's Deputy General Manager B K Govil while supervising the work at battery No. 4 of the coke oven site inside the plant accidently slipped off from about 20-foot high into the flame at around 1800 hours today. He was immediatey removed to Bokaro General hospital where he succumbed to injuries, hospital sources said......

UP govt to equip police with modernised weapons

Lucknow, Dec 14 (UNI) To uproot goons and mafias, the Mayawati government today decided to equip the Uttar Pradesh Police with modernised weapons and equipment. The decision to provide the police with updated weapons was taken at a high-profile meeting today, Principal Secretary (home) J N Chamber told reporters here this evening. Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra passes away

Kanpur, Dec 14 (UNI) Veteran freedom fighter Shiv Kumar Mishra, also the last member of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army, died at his native town here. Patriot Chandrashekhar Azad had included Mishra in his Army, when he was only 16-year-old. He was greatly influenced with the ideologies of Shaheed-e-Anzam Bhagat Singh. Revolutionist Shiv Verma had later inculded him in Communist Party of India (CPI). In 1949, he became the CPI state unit secretary. Mishra had also penned down several popular.....
