Autonomy must for pvt educational institutions: Sherigara

Shimoga, Dec 14 (UNI) Autonomy status to private educational institutions is the only way to achieve standardization in higher education and to prevent malpractices during examinations, Kuvempu University Vice Chancellor Prof.B.S.Sherigara today opined.

Speaking at the inaugural function of General Karyappa Rashtriya Daihika Shikshana Mahavidyalaya of National Education Society (R) here, he said that a debate was going on in all the Universities in the country to bring "Expansion, Excellence and Equity" in Higher Education by increasing the ratio of percentage of higher education from 10 per cent to 20 per cent in future.

He said that the Universities face various problems in bringing revolutionary changes in Higher Education. To overcome them, Vice Chancellor felt that a "Rider should be maintained through the government. Higher Educational institutions have to deviate from traditional system and replace them by starting "open book examination and online question paper transmitting system, just before the examination, he opined.

Howrah, Dec 14 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today said joint venture in the hotel sector would help bring investors to West Bengal. Trade surplus with Singapore declines, imports increase post-FTA

New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) The Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) between India and Singapore has led to a decline in the country's trade surplus with the latter to less than 600 million dollars, says an industry body study. A study by industry body Ficci reveals that the surplus increased to over 1.3 billion dollar in 2004-05 before the FTA in goods was implemented.
