Haflong, Dec 14 (UNI) Depolal Hojai of the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) today assumed the office of the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the newly elected North Cachar Hills District Autonomous Council (NCHDAC).
The ASDC-BJP alliance had swept the autonomous council polls and routed the incumbent Congress, to assume power.
Hojai, after assuming office, pledged his wholehearted efforts for development of the district and expressed his gratitude to the people for electing the alliance to power.
He said his Council would work to check corruption and nepotism and provide a strong, efficient and pro-people alliance.
''Further, my government is committed to protecting the rights and interests of the local and indigenous people of NC Hills by reviving the dao tax,'' Hojai added.
He also thanked the security forces deployed in the district for ensuring a safe and smooth election, which was clouded by militant threats.
