Action Committee urges Centre to drop JIPMER Bill

Puducherry, Dec 14 (UNI) The JIPMER Anti-Conversion Action Committee today urged the Centre to drop the 'JIPMER Bill' and asserted that they would oppose if it was brought in again in any form.

Talking to newspersons here, Committee President Datchinamurty and General Secretary Arokiyam Kalaimathi said the move to convert JIPMER into an autonomous institutiton was only for an individual's benefit.

They alleged that the Bill had not mentioned about free treatment, 20 medical seats for Puducherry, fees structure and job security to the employees.

Challenging AICC General Secretary V Narayansami for an open debate on the issue for calling those who opposed the bill as ''betrayers'', they said when they were on strike, Narayansamy rang up from Delhi and assured them that he would contact the Prime Minister and Sonia Gandhi and press them to drop the move for an autonomous status for the JIPMER.

They also thanked Brinda Karat and AIADMK MP Maitreyen who were instrumental for the withdrawal of the Bill in the Rajya sabha.
