One electrocuted, 18 injured in two incidents in HP

Solan, Dec 11 (UNI) A truck driver was electrocuted, while 18 others were injured in two separate incidents in Himachal Pradesh today, police said.

A truck driver was electrocuted while unloading his vehicle in the industrial area of Baddi Barotiwala, about 60 km from here, at about 1100 hrs.

The police said the driver, identified as Shaym Lal, died on the spot after the water pipes he was loading touched overhead high tension electricity wires in the industrial area.

A case has been registered and investigations are on, the police added.

In the second incident in the state, 18 people were injured, three of them seriously, after a private bus, in which they were traveling, fell into a gorge at Lilly village in Kangra district early today.

Kangra SDM C Palrasu, who rushed to the spot soon after the accident, told UNI that the private bus, which was on its way to Lilly village from Dharamshala fell into the gorge, injuring 18 passengers, three of them seriously.

He said the seriously injured people, included the driver of the bus, identified as Ram Lal, who has been refereed to Dr R P Government Medical College at Tanda, near here.

The fifteen other injured in the accident have been admitted to CHC Nagrota Bhagwan, he said, adding that they have been provided immediate relief of Rs 500 to 1,000 each according to their injuries.

Former state transport minister G S Bali, who is contesting elections from Nagrota Bhagwan constituency, visited the injured in the CHC and inquired about their well being.

A case has been registered against the driver for rash and negligent driving under relevant sections of the IPC, Mr Palrasu added.

No review of hiking land cap for SEZs: Nath

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today said there was no proposal to review the land allocated to Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and change the 5,000 hectare cap prescribed by a Group of Ministers to 10,000 hectares. The statement comes close on the heels of Commerce Secretary Gopal Krishnan Pillai stating that the government was considering hiking the cap on land allocated to SEZ.
