No vendetta politics in Punjabi university: Jaspal Singh

Patiala, Dec 11 (UNI) Dr Jaspal Singh, who today assumed the charge as the new vice-chancellor of Punjabi university, said there would be no vendetta politics and his endeavour would be to provide conducive academic atmosphere on the Punjabi university campus to help promote academics.

Addressing his maiden press conference immediately after taking over charge of his new assignment, Dr Jaspal Singh said that his prime endeavour would be raising the standard of education in the university and its affiliated colleges.

A noted scholar of political science and former Indian envoy of Mozambique, Dr Singh said that he would not like any groupism among faculty members.

The new vice-chancellor said that he would initiate talks with members of the joint action committee which had been spearheading an agitation at the campus for many months. "Contentious issues would be resolved by negotiations," he said.

On the issue of neighbourhood campuses set up by his predecessor Swarn Singh Boparai, Dr Singh said that he would like the campuses to continue functioning, and added that already existing institutions would not be disturbed and would be allowed to function as they were doing earlier.

No review of hiking land cap for SEZs: Nath

New Delhi, Dec 11 (UNI) Commerce Minister Kamal Nath today said there was no proposal to review the land allocated to Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and change the 5,000 hectare cap prescribed by a Group of Ministers to 10,000 hectares. The statement comes close on the heels of Commerce Secretary Gopal Krishnan Pillai stating that the government was considering hiking the cap on land allocated to SEZ. Mayawati writes to PM to increase DAP allocation

Lucknow, Dec 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has written a letter to Prime minister Manmohan Singh demanding additional allocation of one lakh tonne of DAP fertiliser to meet the demand of the agriculture sector of the state. The CM has also urged the PM to make available 60,000 tonne of DAP within the next fortnight. The CM has also written a letter to the Railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav to make available wagons to ferry the DAP from Kandla.....

GPCC chief demands CBI probe into scandal

Vadodara, Dec 11 (UNI) Beleaguered Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee President Bharatsinh Solanki today demanded a CBI probe into a mysterious sex-on-cd scandal, in which he was allegedly involved.
