New Delhi, Dec 7: Asserting that a majority in Parliament was against the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Communist Party of India (CPI) today urged the Government to convey their opposition to the US and make an 'honourable exit' from the pact. The CPI Central Secretariat said the government should convey to the US that India was a democracy and its Parliament was not in favour of the deal. ''Such a move will pave an honourable way out for the Government from the Indo-US nuclear deal before the international community,'' the party said in a release here.
The Left Parties reiterated their consistent opposition to the 123 Agreement, citing cogent arguments. The main opposition party took a stand opposing the deal for their own reasons. The other non-UPA and non-BJP parties took a stand similar to that of the Left Parties.
''If one goes by the simple arithmetic and the tone and tenure of the speeches of the members representing their parties, it is clear that a majority in both the Houses termed the Deal as against the national interest,'' the release added.
