Energy Expo-2007 to begin

Ahmedabad, Dec 5: The 3rd three-day Energy Expo-2007, jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and India Energy Conclave-2007, will begin here from Friday.

''The Energy Expo-2007 will showcase the latest and emerging technologies in the energy segment,'' convenor D J Yadav told reporters here today.

He informed that the expo is being supported by the Gujarat Government and other associations like the Bureau of Engery Efficiency and India Energy Forum, with KPMG and India Energy Exchange as the knowledge and exchange partners respectively.

The objective of the exhibition is to bring together manufacturers and suppliers.

Mr Yadav said over 160 companies will be participating in the event. The exhibit profile covers power, coal, gas, renewable energy, power transmission and distribution equipments and financing options.

The exhibitors include ABB, Areva, BPCL, Caterpillar, Crompton Greaves, Cummin, Enercon, Fenner, Forbes, Marshall, GE, Rolls-Royce, Suzlon, Thermax, Trivedi, Turbomach, Vestas, and Wartsila.

Concurrently, the India Energy Conclave-2007 will also be held on Friday. The aim of the conclave is to provide a broad overview of the performance of the sector and to draw attention to the major hurdles in the development of this sector.

Rice questions why Saudi might need nuke energy

Washington, Dec 16: US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice today questioned why oil-rich Saudi Arabia might want nuclear power and said she wanted to know more about plans by Gulf states to study nuclear energy. ''I'd like to know more about it and I think it's something that we should have discussions (about),'' Rice told Reuters when asked about the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council's decision to study a possible joint civil atomic program......
