Speaking at the Murugappa Group-NDTV Profit Summit 2007 '' Making of the Indian Century'' here yesterday, Mr Alagappan said, '' Various trends will make the 21st century an Asian and more so an Indian century. From being mere back room boys, we are emerging as today's leaders in fields of management, research, design and consulting.'' The fortnight-long summit series started in Delhi and moved to Chennai, Bangalore and Kolkata before reaching here for the grand finale.
One of the panelists at the summit, Mahindra&Mahindra Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anand Mahindra said, ''Innovation is the mantra that is thriving in chaos. We don't have a common vision but we do have as aspiration the optimistic youth, that is eager to move forward.'' Though Mr Mahindra felt that India has not dared to innovate enough, he was confident that it would happen soon.
The Smart Manager Managing Editor and BP Ergo Chairman Dr Gita Piramal said, ''Quality can be defined as beauty which lies in the eyes of the beholder.'' She said that Indian designers may not be knowing proper English, yet they are very efficent. She was confident about the future and added, ''When a million matchsticks come together India is bound to progress.'' NDTV Profit Managing Director Shivnath Thukral said, ''From being a closed economy ten years back to one of the leading economies in the world, a structural transformation has reshaped India's business world. The summit acknowledges over a billion people mobilised by democracy with a youthful outlook and determination to end poverty, who are armed with tools of technocracy, open to global co-operation and investment in India all working towards an Indian century.'' Other personalities who addressed the summit include Murugappa Group Vice Chairman and Director A Vellayan, Future Brands CEO Santosh Desai, ICICI Bank Executive Director V Vaidyanathan and Subex Azure CEO Subhash Menon.
