Karnataka Assembly dissolved

Bangalore, Nov 29: The Karnataka Assembly has been dissolved, paving the way for fresh elections in the State. According to Raj Bhavan sources, a presidential notification was issued dissolving the house on Wednesday night.

The proclamation was issued on the Union Cabinet recommendation.

Three advisers -- P P Prabhu, S Krishnakumar and P K H Tharakan are expected to take charge of their responsibilities today.

On November 20, President's rule was imposed in the State by the Union Cabinet for the second time in less than two months. The decision was taken following Governor Ramesh Thakur's report in the wake of the resignation of Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa.

Yeddyurappa resigned following a decision by the JD (S), a coalition partner of the BJP in the State, to oppose the confidence motion in the State Assembly, thereby foisting a minority status on the government within a week of Yeddyurappa taking oath.

On October 9, Central rule was imposed after the BJP had to withdraw its support from the coalition as the JD (S) failed to live up to its promise to hand over the power to Yeddyurappa as per an agreement reached between the two-parties twenty months ago.
