Guj polls: No Muslim worthy of BJP ticket

Surat/Maninagar, Nov 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj today said that no leader from the minorities has worked to the extent that would entitle them to get a party ticket for the forthcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat. "The people from minorities have not done enough work for the BJP that would make them eligible for ticket," said Sushma.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination for the upcoming elections from Maninagar.

"People have seen my work and have no doubts in their mind (about me), The elections in Gujarat this year is different from those held earlier," Modi said after filing his nominations at electoral office here.

Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dinsha J Patel also filed his nomination.

"I am sure that the Congress in Gujarat will get 115 to 120 seats," said Patel.

The BJP has substantially raised the number of female contestants, giving tickets to 13 women in the first phase of the polls to the Gujarat legislature, compared to the overall dozen in the previous polls.

Over 36 million voters will elect the 182-member assembly in Gujarat as the term of the state's legislative assembly is due to expire on December 26. The first phase of polling is scheduled on December 11.
