BJP chief flays UPA government on terrorism

Rajkot, Nov 28: BJP President Rajnath Singh has flayed the Congress-led government at the Centre, saying it had failed to stop terrorism.

Addressing a public rally here last night, Mr Singh, while referring to the recent serial bomb blasts in Uttar Pradesh, said the Congress government had failed to contain terrorism.

Admitting that terrorist attacks also took place during the BJP rule, he said terrorists then were gunned down by the brave jawans. But in the Congress regime, terrorists had succeeded in fleeing after the bomb blasts.

He charged that under the Congress-led government, terrorism was escalating and criticised the UPA government for repealing the POTA.

The BJP leader said the Congress had committed the gravest mistake by denying the existence of Lord Ram in an affidavit on Ram Sethu in the Supreme Court.

He said Mahatma Gandhi had talked about Ram and Ram Rajya and also sung 'bhajans' like 'Ragupati Raghav Raja Ram'. ''Can they undermine Mahatma Gandhi's belief?'' he asked.

He also criticised the Congress-led government for the Indo-US nuclear deal agreement, saying the BJP strongly opposed the pact as it offered ''subservient status'' to India.

Praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Singh said under Mr Modi's regime, the state had become a model state. It has made unprecedented growth on all fronts and achieved the economic growth at 10.67 per cent, he said.

The Modi government had done exceptional work during its six years of rule and the Congress, on the other hand, called it just hype, Mr Singh added.

He urged the people to exercise their franchise on the performance of Mr Modi. 'The BJP is certain to win the forthcoming assembly polls in Gujarat and Mr Modi will again be the chief minister,'' he added.

With the rally, Mr Singh kickstarted his election campaigning in Gujarat for the first phase of elections.
