JD(S) insists BJP to sign MoU before floor test

Bangalore, Nov 18: The fate of six-day-old BJP-led coalition government in Karnataka hangs in balance with the JD(S) insisting on its partner to sign the 12-point 'MoU' before Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa seeks the vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly tomorrow.

The crucial meeting of the JD(S) legislature party today unanimously decided to request party supremo H D Deve Gowda and son H D Kumaraswamy to take a final decision, in the event of the BJP refusing to sign the MoU drafted by Mr Gowda.

Emerging out of the meeting, Mr Kumaraswamy said the party President had explained to the legislators the ''need'' of signing such a pact for the ''smooth functioning of the government.'' He said a three-member core committee was formed to decide the ''future course of action'' if the BJP refused to sign the MoU.

The core committee consisting party leaders M P Prakash, D Manjunath and Merajuddin Patel, would discuss the response of the BJP on the issue and decide the future course of action before legislators attend the one-day special assembly session tomorrow, he said.
