New Delhi, Nov 18: Accusing the Congress Party of turning Doordarshan (DD) into a 'Congress Darshan Channel', BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today urged the Election Commission to take note of the the misuse of government machinery by the party at a time when elections to Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh assemblies are under way.
In a statement Mr Naqvi said it was unfortunate that the Congress was pedaling its own propaganda on official medium in the name of AICC session, citing the live telecast of speeches of party president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi at yesterday's AICC session. ''If this is what is happening when only two states are facing elections, one can imagine the level of misuse in the future when elections for the Lok Sabha, will be held,'' Mr Naqvi alleged.
He said the BJP strongly opposed the violation of model code of conduct through the misuse of the state apparatus when the official broadcaster is shouldered with a responsibility of ensuring a level playing field for all the political parties in the fray.
The DD reaches the remotest corners of the country and such telecasts could have prejudicial influence on the minds of the electorate, he said.
