PDP to set up Karnataka committee within 2 months

Mangalore, Nov 17 (UNI) PDP Chairman Abdul Nasir Madani, who is on a statewide tour in Karnataka to strengthen the party, today said the State level Committee of the party would be constituted within two months.

Talking to newspersons at Ganjimata near Bajpe, Mr Madani on his way to Kasargod in Kerala, said the campaign for strengthening his party would be intensified after returning from Haj tour.

He said the party would also hold a national level Social Justice Conference at Kochi on January 1, 2008 and more than 1000 party workers from all over India would participate.

He said more than five lakh people were expected to attend the Conference, which would be addressed by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad, among others. The Conference was intended to bring together the backward class, dalits and minority sections of the society, he added.

Mr Madani, declining to comment on his arrest in Coimbatore and imprisonment from March 31, 1998 till August 2007, said he did not want to indulge in post-mortem of the incident. However, it was a ''political hidden agenda'', he added.

New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) Out of favour Pakistan Test opener Taufeeq Umar today said he was not given fair treatment by the PCB and that was the reason why he chose to join the 'rebel' Indian Cricket League (ICL). ''I have a Test average of above 41 as opener and no other current Pakistani opener has that figure. But, I had played only three Tests in the last three years,'' he said at a cricket clinic organised by ICL.....

Ex-officials to face trial for Iraq militia support

BAGHDAD, Nov 17 (Reuters) Iraq's former deputy health minister and a former senior ministry official will soon face trial, the Iraqi government said today, after accusations they helped Shi'ite militiamen fuel sectarian bloodshed. Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said Hakim Zamili, the one-time deputy minister detained in a raid in February, and another former official from the ministry had been presented before the US-backed Central Criminal Court of Iraq last week. BJP's opposition to nuke deal issue-based compared to Left:Advani

Jhunjhunu, Nov 17 (UNI) Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani today alleged that his party's opposition to the Indo-US nuclear deal was issue-based whereas the Left was opposing it only to target the United States. Talking to reporters in the nearby Malsisar town, Mr Advani said BJP was opposing the deal for certain provisions and clauses and the launguage of the terms and conditions which did put several rides on our discretion.....
