6 rebel BJP MLAs expected to resign from Party

Ahmedabad, Nov 17 (UNI) Six rebel MLAs, including two former ministers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have decided to resign from the Gujarat Legislative Assembly as well as from the primary membership of the Party later today.

MLAs, who are expected to resign, are -- Dhiru Gajera (Surat), Bechar Bhadani, Bavku Unghad, Balu Tanti, Gopal Dhua and Narendrasinh Jadeja.

Of these six rebel MLAs, Gajera, Bhadani, Unghad and Tanti were suspended recently by the Party for their anti-party activities, while action against the other two was yet to be taken.

''We will be submitting our resignation to Speaker Mangaldas Patel sometime in the afternoon,'' Mr Gajera said.

Pakistan army to launch big push in militant valley

Musharraf warns on nuclear weapons

London, Nov 17: President Pervez Musharraf, defending his decision to declare emergency rule, has said Pakistan's nuclear weapons could fall into the wrong hands if elections led to disturbances. The comments, in a BBC interview broadcast today, come as US envoy John Negroponte visited Pakistan to put pressure on Musharraf to revoke the two-week-old emergency, make peace with opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and hold fair elections. Sri Lanka says fresh fighting kills 18 rebels

COLOMBO, Nov 17 (Reuters) Sri Lankan troops killed 18 Tamil Tiger rebels in clashes in the north of the island, the military said today. The clashes, in the northern district of Vavuniya and Jaffna peninsula, were the latest engagements in intensified fighting between government forces and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) fighters.
