Kavaratti, Lakshadweep, Nov 9: The Coast Guard today searched South of Kalpeni Island in Lakshadweep to trace the missing cargo vessel, 'M S V Lakshadweep', with seven crew on board.
Coast Guard Commandant, Kavaratti, M V Kumar said ''our ship Savitribai Phule is searching between Kalpeni and Vizhinjam since this morning, but there is no trace of the vessel.'' The vessel, which was reported missing on November six, was supposed to arrive at Kalpeni on November five, carrying a 1.7 tonne sand and pulses from Mangalore Port.

No aerial sortie was undertaken this morning. However, one might be done later in the day, he said.
The vessel was being operated for the Lakshadweep Co-operative Marketing Federation. It left Mangalore Port on November three. When it did not arrive as scheduled, the port authorities alerted the Coast Guard.
Efforts to contact the vessel, a 35 metre-long mechanised wooden dhow, through a VHF communication set on board, had also not yielded any response.
The ship's last contact with the Coast Guard had been shortly after leaving Mangalore Port on November three, when the Captain had reported that everything was alright.
