Itanagar, Oct 30: North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) Director K.Kumar has expressed concern over poor equilibrium of demand and supply of drinking water in Arunachal Pradesh and called for an effective technical policy to ensure adequate supply of healthy drinking water.

Inaugurating a fortnight-long training programme on water quality testing near here yesteday, Prof Kumar elaborated the status and potential of water resources and called for scientific methods for its proper exploitation and usage.

He said such training was the need of the hour to sensitise government and non-government officials as well as for their capacity building.

The programme was a joint venture of the Centre of Appropriate Technology and Rural Development and NERIST Forestry department, supported by the state Public Health Engineering Department (PHED).

Speaking on the occasion, Communication and Capacity Development unit Director A N Singh and PHED SE (HQ) S.Yomcha both emphasised on the role of such training in public health and monitoring across different districts in the state for the sensitisation and capacity-building of government and non-government officials.

Programme coordinator Dr A.Arunachalam underscored the need for taking such trainings seriously for ensuring public health in the entire state.
