JD-S to support BJP to form next govt: HDK

Bangalore, Oct 27: The Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka today said it will support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form the next government in the state.

Disclosing this to newspersons here, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said a letter had already been sent to Governor Rameshwar Thakur in this regard by state JD(S) chief Mirajuddin Patel.

In a sudden turn of events with former Home Minsiter and JD(S) leader M P Prakash in New Delhi to hold talks with the Congress for forming the government, the party has taken a decision to support the BJP. The BJP is likely to meet the Governor in the afternoon to stake claim, according to party sources here.

The State is currently under President's rule with the Assembly kept under suspended animation following the withdrawal of the Support to the Kumaraswamy led JD(S)-BJP coalition government by the latter as the JD(S) failed to keep up its assurance to transfer power to the BJP on October four.

Talking to newsmen on the new development Mr Kumaraswamy accused the Congress of engineering a split in the JD(S). He, however, said that no discplinary action would be taken against Mr Prakash, who had been authorised by the legislators to take initiative to form the next government.

The BJP and the JD(S) party had been repeatedly reiterated a mid term poll after the resignatrion of the Kumaraswamy government, though a section of the JD(S) legislators were keen that the party should explore the possibility of forming the next government and avoid mid term poll.
