Unions should not be linked to political parties: SCRMU

Tirupati, Oct 26 (UNI) Trade unions would face difficulties in fulfilling the needs of workers if they are linked to political parties, South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU), General Secretary Ch Shankara Rao said today.

Mr Rao, who was here as a part of the union election campaign in Chittoor district, said the SCRMU, established in 1924, was not linked to any poltical party.

Welcoming the Railway Minister's decision to conduct a 'Secret Ballot', from November 26 to 28, 2007, he claimed that the SCRMU, with a strength of 85,000 members would secure the top position in the ensuing elections.

The SCRMU was fighting against outsourcing and privatisation of certain departmental activities.

He said that the Union would intensify the agitation if the 'Sixth Pay Commission' was not implemented on or before February next year.

TEA thanks Kamal Nath for letter to EU on NGO campaign

Tirupur, Oct 26(UNI) The Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) today thanked Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath for his communication to the EU Trade Commissioner regarding a 'disinforation labour of' campaign by NGOs against garment exporters in India. A TEA press release said the Minister had written to the EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and the Dutch Foreign Minister to counter the NGO campaign. Low pressure area likely over South East Bay of Bengal in 48 hrs

Hyderabad, Oct 26 (UNI) A low pressure area is likely to form over South East Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 48 hours, increasing further chances for rainfall in Andhra Pradesh. Under its influence, isolated heavy rain was likely to occur in the districts of Nellore and Prakasam of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Chittoor, Kadapa and Anantapur of Rayalaseema during the period, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
