Two dreaded criminals killed in police encounter

Hardwar, Oct 26 (UNI) Two dreaded criminals were gunned down in a joint operation of Delhi police Crime Branch and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Hardwar police near Chandi Ghat under Shyampur police station of the district yesterday.

The police sources said the criminals tried to flee in the adjoining forest, but finding themselves surrounded by the police teams, started firing at the police. The police retaliated, killing the two criminals in the exchange of fire.

The SSP, V Murgeshan said that on a tip off from Delhi police Crime Branch the police team of Shyampur police station, led by the SO Dhyan Singh, and the SOG team of the district, led by RB Chamola, surrounded the criminals near Chandi Ghat on Hardwar-Bijnor national highway.

The police later identified those killed as the notorious Guru Bachan alias Hakala of Faridabad and Jabbar alias Chintoo of Gautam Budh Nagar district in UP. In the encounter sub-inspector of Delhi police, Yudh Veer Singh, sustained injuries.

Guru Bachan, who had 27 cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping registered against him in various police stations of Delhi, UP, Haryana and Punjab and carried a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head, had fled from the custody of Delhi police three months ago, while Jabbar was wanted by the police of these states in several cases of heinous crimes including three murders, sources said.

No reduction in CRPF deployment in J and K : CRPF DG

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) today ruled out any reduction in their deployment in Jammu and Kashmir, saying the potency and designs of terrorists in the state had not come down even though the levels of violence had slightly declined. CPI wants Nanavati Com. to take cognizance of riots expose

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The CPI has demanded that the Nanavati Commission take suo motu cognizance of the self-confessed statements by rioters about their ''exploits'' during Gujarat riots as revealed by the Tehelka sting operation. The CPI said the expose only substantiates what was already known to the people in the country. ''Comparing themselves with Rana Pratap and their blood lust with Haldighati is an insult to the glorious memory of the historical personality and his battle,'' the party.....

US fresh sanction against Iran opposed

New Delhi, Oct 26: The Polit Bureau of the CPI (M) has expressed strong opposition to the fresh round of sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran. The party, in a press statement issued here today, said these unilateral sanctions are aimed at Iran's financial system and economy and come in the wake of continuing threats of military action against the country. The sanctions should not find acceptance in the international community and the UPA Government must break its silence.....
