Top Structural Engineers to attend 3rd World Congress

Bangalore, Oct 26 (UNI) More than 1,200 delegates from India and abroad will participate in the six-day third Structural Engineers World Congress (SEWC) to be held here from November two.

Talking to newspersons today, SEWC President R Sundaram said the experts included those involved in the construction of buildings in earthquake-prone and tsunami-affected areas and also the Pentagon, which was partially destroyed in terrorist attack.

The delegates would discuss threadbare defects in structure and come out with suggestions.

He said the World Congress, being held for the first time in India, was organised by Structural Engineers World Congress Society.

The Congress provided a unique opportunity for civil engineers from all over the world to interact with each other and explore various business interests in the ever expanding global market, he said.

Mr Sundaram said,''today the art of structural designing has become extremely relevant because of the great emphasis on infrastructure, especially in developing countries.'' He said more than 450 technical papers were received from more than 50 countries and 320 had been accepted for presentation.

Indian and International exhibitors would showcase their products, services, equipment and technologies relating to all facets of the civil construction industry, in an exhibition organised as part of the Congress.

MP inks MoU wih Ispat for 1,000 MW power plant

Indore, Oct 26 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today inked a memorandum of understanding with SKS Ispat and Power Limited for setting up a Rs 4,400-crore, 1,000-MW power plant in Chhindwara district. Dabolim airport needs bigger passenger terminus: Shantaram

Panaji, Oct 26 (UNI) Dabolim airport in Goa should have a bigger integrated passenger terminus than the one being planned at 1,000 passengers per day, Member of Parliament Shantaram Naik said. Medha Patkar demands cancellation of Jupiter Mills' land deal
