Thailand to make dictionary for blind

Bangkok, Oct 26 (UNI) A special dictionary named 'Daisy' for the visually-impaired people will be ready in the next two years.

DAISY -- Digitally Accessible Information System -- is a joint attempt by Thailand's Royal Institute, the Thai Blind People's Foundation and the Club of Volunteers for the Blind.

Volunteers read books and record their voices in digital format which becomes accessible as information to the visually-impaired people.

''The initiative for the dictionary for the blind began in 1999,'' Bangkok Post reported Secretary-General of the Thai Blind People's Foundation Monthien Boonthan as saying.

''The DAISY dictionary is accessible for both the blind and those who are not,'' according to Mr Monthien.

Thailand recently bagged the second slot, first being held by Japan, in having the greatest number of DAISY books for the blind in Asia, with more than 2,000 books in the National Library for the Blind.
