Super healthy chocolate coming soon, thanks to Oz farmers

Sydney, Oct 26 (UNI) Expect a ''super chocolate'' soon on the shelves with all the health benefits as Oz farmers are growing the first commercial cocoa crop to produce the healthiest confection.

Australia biotechnology company Horizon Science is growing such plants, which were sowed commercially three years ago, in far north Queensland.

This project will produce the first 100 per cent Australian chocolate with low GI sugar and high antioxidants.

Antioxidants are-known to have incredible benefits for the cardiovascular system, the health and stability of cells in the body and the rate of digestion and lowering blood glucose.

''The secret behind the healthier chocolate is using antioxidant-rich parts of the sugarcane and cocoa plants usually discarded,'' the Herald Sun quoted Horizon founding partner Dr Barry Kitchen as saying.

''Seventy five per cent of the cocoa pod is thrown away in conventional processing,'' he said, adding that antioxidants in the these pods help the performance of lipids in the blood and reduce blood pressure.
