Sugar prices rise on brisk bulk consumers demand

Navi Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) Wholesale sugar prices recovered smartly today on sustained heavy bulk consumers demand coupled with lack of offers by stockists in view of larger arrival of stocks from co-operative mills, traders at the Bombay Sugar Merchants Association said.

Prices of small and medium grades (per quintal) rose by Rs ten and Rs 15 respectively due to better bulk consumers demand.

Sugar in ex-mill small and medium grades (per quintal) also gained by Rs 10 each owing to increase in offers by stockists, traders said.

Following are the spot wholesale rates per quintal: Small grade: Rs 1,356/1,396, Medium grade: Rs 1,395/1,500.

Ex-mill mall grade: Rs 1,330/1,360, Medium grade: Rs 1,385/1400.

Badal reviews availability of seeds, fertilisers

Bata India Q3 net rises 55.73% at Rs 9.50 cr

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) Bata India Ltd has reported a net profit of Rs 9.50 crore for the quarter ended September 2007, as compared to Rs 6.10 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, up by 55.73 per cent. The company recorded a turnover of Rs 206.6 crore in Q3FY07, a 15.7 per cent increase over the Rs 178.6 crore during Q3FY06. EC displeased with VC, Pro VC of Saurashtra varsity

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has conveyed its displeasure for the violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by Vice Chancellor Kamlesh Joshipura and Pro Vice Chancellor Kaplak Trivedi of Saurashtra University. According to EC sources, the Commission has also directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to file a case against them under section 127 of the Representation of Peoples Act against printers and publisher of pamplets.
