Security alert at Kerala HC following bomb threat

Kochi, Oct 26 (UNI) A security alert was sounded at the Kerala High Court following receipt of an anonymous letter, threatening a bomb blast in the court complex today.

Kochi Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham told UNI that the anti-sabotage and bomb disposal squads of the police, including a dog squad, have been pressed into service to carry out a thorough check of the multi-storeyed court complex, located off the busy Marine Drive, in the heart of Kochi city.

Additional frisking and checking was also being done at the entrance gates.

Only judges' cars were being permitted into the court complex, he added.

However, Registrar General Satheesh Chandran said, ''work at the court is going on uninterrupted. Police have stepped up security measures''.

The Commissioner said the High Court Registrar had received an anonymous letter two to three days ago, threatening a bomb blast in the court complex on Friday.

''We are not taking any chance and a thorough check is going on.

The court complex is already a protected area. We have deployed additional security,'' he said.
