SC should take Tehelka tapes as evidence against Guj Govt: CPM

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The CPI(M) today said the Tehelka tapes in the 2002 post-Godhra riots should be taken as prime facie evidence and the Supreme Court and the Centre should move expeditiously to see that all those guilty are brought to justice.

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau said the Tehelka footage, shown on a private news channel have been brought out by the perpetrators themselves.

The party in a press statement issued here said it had only confirmed what is well known, that the 2002 violence in Gujarat was a State sponsored one. Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his Government were fully responsible for this gross violation of human rights and subversion of the Constitution.

A number of cases pertaining to the Gujarat killings are before the Supreme Court. There has been a great delay in disposing of these cases and bringing the culprits to book.

The Centre and the law enforcement agencies have a special responsibility in this regard.
