Kottayam, Oct 26 (UNI) Rubber growers, who participated in a feed back seminar at the Rubber Research Institute of India (RRII) here today, asserted that the recently released 400 series Rubber clones were superior to RRII 105, in growth and yield.
Many of the growers, encouraged by their experience would now switch over to the new variety. The clones superior to the RRII-105 model in growth, would help in reducing the maturity period in the field-- from seven years to five or six years.
The seminar was attended by a group of farmers selected from among those growing it on an experimental basis by procuring the clones directly from the RRII, and have kept records of growth, yield and disease resistance.
RRII-105, the most popular and widely planted Rubber clone in India, is one of the most outstanding variety in the world. It was released in 1980 for large scale planting.
The RRII-400 series clones were developed in 1982 and the clones were issued to growers on limited scale, for experimental planting.
