Rs 173 cr allocated for welfare of SC/BC in Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) The Haryana government has earmarked a sum of Rs 173.51 crore during the current financial year for the welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes as against Rs 16.75 crore spent during 2004-05.

Stating this here today, Social Welfare Minister Kartar Devi said a number of schemes had been launched for the welfare of the people belonging to these categories for their economic uplift and social development.

Ms Devi said that under Indira Gandhi Priyadarshni Vivah Shagun Yojana, a grant of Rs 15,000 was being given to the people belonging to Scheduled Castes and widows of all the sections of the society living below the poverty line at the time of marriage of their daughters and a sum of Rs 5100 were being given to the people belonging to other sections of the society who were living below the poverty line on the ocassion of the marriage of their daughters.

She said that during the current financial year, a provision of Rs 20.83 crore has been made during the current financial year while a sum of Rs 22.26 lakh had been incurred under this scheme during the last year.

The Minister said the government had increased the housing subsidy from Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000 for the construction of houses and a provision had also been made to provide a grant of Rs 10,000 for the repair of the houses to the members living below the poverty line belonging to Scheduled Castes and Vimukat Jati.

A sum of Rs 10 crore had been earmarked under the scheme during the current financial year while a sum of Rs 5.56 crore had been incurred during the current financial year under the scheme.

She said the incentive for inter-caste marriage had also been enhanced from Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000. A sum of Rs 19.25 lakh had was spent during the last year for the purpose while a provision of Rs 20 lakh was made during the current financial year.

Puri-Hatia Durga Puja Special train cancelled

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26 (UNI) The East Coast Railway today cancelled the special train running between Puri and Hatia due to inadequate number of passengers. The train was scheduled to run from October 9 to November 21. As per schedule the train was to run on every Tuesdays from Puri and every Wednesdays from Hatia during this period to clear the rush during the puja season, East Coast Railway sources here said.
