Romanian Economic Mission looking forward to trade pacts

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) A senior Romanian counsellor Dorin Refca of the Ministry of Small and Medium Sized Companies, Trade, Tourism and Liberal Professions, today expressed desire to strengthen bilateral trade and cooperation between India and Romania.

Heading the Romanian Economic Mission, a high powered business delegation, Refca was speaking at an 'interactive meeting', organised by Federation of Indian chamber of commerce and industries.

Refca said with Romania becoming a full-fledged Member State of European Union, it had opened huge opportunities for the country's economic partners.

He saw enormous opportunities for Indian enterprises to invest in mining, machine tools, industrial equipment, auto parts, cement and construction industries of Romania and also import products manufactured by these industries.

Refca informed that the India Business Trade Centre to be opened shortly would go a long way in scaling up business with India.

Mr Casandu Paparoiu, Romanian Trade Commissioner in Mumbai, accompanied the Romanian Economic Mission.

40 ft tunnel spotted in Meerut jail, 3 prison guards booked

Meerut, Oct 26 (UNI) Three prison guards were booked after a 40 feet long tunnel was discovered in the district jail here today. Senior Police Superintendent Jyoti Narayan said ''The tunnel, 40 feet in length and four feet in diameter, was spotted near barrack 17 and 18 during an inspection by jail superintendent.'' The tunnel was prepared by the prisoners with an intention to escape. Even the jail officials were hand-in-glove with them. If the tunnel was not spotted, almost 150.....

HC clarifies its order on transfer of political prisoners

Kochi, Oct 26 (UNI) A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court today clarified that its order of October 10 explaining that it had issued a direction that the political prisoners in Kannur jail should be re-transferred to Viyyur jail in Thrissur district. The Bench comprising Justices J B Koshy and K Padmananabhan Nair said the clarification, followed the recent statement by the Director General of Prosecution that there was no such direction to transfer the political prisoners from Kannur jail.....

NRI groom, parents held for dowry demand

Patiala, Oct 26 (UNI) An NRI bridegroom and his parents were arrested on the charges of demanding dowry and breach of trust by the police here today. According to Mandeep Singh Sidhu SP City, the NRI bridegroom Gurpreet Singh, his father Bhajan Singh and his mother Harjit Kaur were arrested as they had demanded 50 lakh from Gurbachan Singh, father of bride Amitoj Kaur here today.
