Police arrest 10 Myanmarese poachers from North Andaman

Port Blair, Oct 26 (UNI) The Andaman and Nicobar Police has apprehended ten foreign poachers from the area of Sound Island of North Andaman.

A Myanmarese dinghy and other items had also been seized.

Following a tip off that some Myanmarese poachers had been sighted in and around South Island and the adjoining areas, an anti-poaching team of police proceeded to the area where they were sighted, Ashok Chand the Superintendent of Police in Andaman told UNI today.

He added that the team sighted one engine dinghy with Myanmarese poachers proceeding from the western coast of Sound Island towards open sea. The police team after chasing the dinghy apprehended them.

''We have also recovered fishing equipment, diving glasses, a spare engine, HSD Oil, rice, torch lights, plastic rope and wooden box with tools,'' Chand added.

The Myanmarese poachers were being interrogated, the SP added.

Sydicate Bank Q2 net up 10.9 per cent

New Delhi, Oct 26: Public sector Syndicate Bank today said the company posted a net profit of Rs 227.58 crore for the quarter ended September 30, an increase of 10.9 per cent as compared with Rs 205.07 crore during the same quarter last fiscal. Total income of the company rose by 35.1 per cent to Rs 2,154.99 crore for the quarter, as compared to Rs 1,595.07 crore during the corresponding period last year, a company statement said. Special Police Team formed in TN to check idol theft

Madurai, Oct 26 (UNI) A Special Police Team has been constituted to ascertain the exact number of idols and other artefacts in historic temples and study the security arrangements required to check idol thefts in Tamil Nadu, Inspector General of Police (Idol Theft Prevention Wing) M K Jha has said. Disclosing this to newspersons here last night after chairing a review meeting of temple officers of the Southern districts, he said the team would visit temples and make an on-the-spot.....

Assembly constituency village cut off following heavy rain

Puducherry, Oct 26 (UNI) Manalaipet village in Mannadipet assembly constituency was cut off from Puducherry region following flood in the Sankarabharani river due to incessent rainfall in the area for the last two days. The administration had constructed a bed dam and a bridge across the Sankarabharani river at Manalipet. Even though the construction of the bridge was completed, it could not be commissioned due to lack of approach road on eighter sides because of some land dispute with private parties......
