PM reviews status of implementation of NCMP

New Delhi, Oct 26: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today expressed concern over the "slow progress" of infrastructure projects as he reviewed the implementation of various programmes taken up under the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP), which forms the basis of governance by the ruling UPA coalition.

At a meeting here, Dr Singh directed that a meeting of the Committee on Infrastructure be called to review progress in power, roads, ports, telecom and railway sectors.

Dr Singh discussed the status of implementation of the recommendations of the Radhakrishna Committee on agricultural indebtedness, Vaidyanathan Committee Report on cooperative sector and the Sachar Committee Report on empowerment of minorities.

Official sources said the Prime Minister reviewed implementation of Mid-Day Meal Scheme, Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS), revamping of Public Distribution System, Implementation of Social Security Initiatives of the Government like old age pension, health insurance schemes for disabled persons.

The Prime Minister also reviewed implementation of initiatives in education sector including announcements made in his Independence Day address.

Hamas says some of its forces paid with Abbas funds

Gaza, Mar 14:  Part of the 100 million dollars in tax revenues transferred by Israel to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas was used to pay security services, including members of a Hamas-led force, a Hamas source said.During a meeting with Abbas on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert asked him to account for how the 100 million dollars in Palestinian tax revenues had been spent.Israel opposed using the money to pay salaries, particularly to members of Hamas, a group whose charter calls.....
