Pak militant awarded 13-year jail, fine

Jammu, Oct 26 (UNI) A local court today awarded 13-year imprisonment and a fine to a Pakistani militant while a 12-year jail term has been announced for the accused for giving shelter to the militant, sources today said.

Sources said Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, J R Kotwal convicted and sentenced the accused Waqar Shah alias Imran resident of Hazara, Pakistan, to undergo 13 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15000 while handing down 12 years inprisonment to Nissar Ahmed resident of Surankote. However, Parveen Akhter, wife of Nissar Ahmed, against whom the prosecution failed to prove the case, was acquitted.

''According to the facts, Pakistan national militant Waqar Shah alias Imran was arrested on March 17, 1996 from the house of one Mohd Azam in Mendhar and was interrogated by the Joint Interrogation Centre,'' sources said asserting that during interrogation the Pakistan militant disclosed he had kept the arms and ammunitions in the cattle-shed of Nissar Ahmed in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district.

However, a case was registered in the Surankote police station and both husband and wife were arrested on the disclosure of militant and a gunny bag with huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered, sources said.

Meanwhile the Principal Sessions Judge Jammu today found them guilty and convicted them for offences under sections 7/25 of Arms Act and 5 of Explosive Substances Act.

MMRDA to conduct survey on Nirmal Abhiyan

Mumbai Oct 26 (UNI) Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will take a survey in all the 7 Municipal Corporations and 13 Municipal Councils in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in a bid to implement the Nirmal MMR Abhiyan, on increasing the number of public toilets. Rate contract good for water supply: Srivastav
