Paddy purchase touches 100 lakh tonne

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other government agencies, engaged in Kharif 2007-08 procurement, have so far procured 100 lakh tonne of paddy from farmers at Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The procurement is in full swing in paddy procurment states and keeping in view the present trends of arrival in mandies (markets), procurement could reach 256 lakh tonne of paddy and 276 lakh tonnes of rice during the current season, a FCI release said here today.

Such quantum of procurement will fill up the government food kitty with sufficient stocks for Public Distribution System (PDS) and other welfare schemes of the government through the year, the release added.

SC should take Tehelka tapes as evidence against Guj Govt: CPM

No orders issued to ban airing of Tehelka episode: EC

New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) The Election Commission(EC) today denied that it had ever issued orders to block airing of the Tehelka episode on Gujarat violence on any TV channel. The clarification came in the wake of large scale complaints from viewers all over Gujarat that they were not able to watch the programme which was being telecast by some private channels under the heads of ''Tehelka episode of the 2002 Gujarat violence''.
