Nikita and others booked for assaulting mediapersons

Ludhiana, Oct 26 (UNI) The police today booked Russian wrestler Nikita and others under various charges including criminal conspiracy obstructing from duty, beating, abusing, defaming and threatening mediapersons last evening.

The FIR was registered in Ludhiana under sections 295, 323, 334, 336, 341, 294,500, 504, 506 and, 120 of the IPC on the complaint of local mediapersons, police sources said.

Police and media persons were camping at the hotel Park Plaza where the wrestlers are staying.

All hell had broken loose when wrestling hulks came to blows, hurling chairs and abuses at each other after they were denied permission to hold the much-publicised India versus World wrestling shows scheduled to be held at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala.

After clawing at each other, the wrestlers, led by Russian Nikita, turned their ire towards the journalists present.

Mediapersons later held a meeting had demanded stern action against the wrestlers.

BERLIN, Oct 26 (Reuters) German Chancellor Angela Merkel aims to boost business ties with India on her first trip to the world's biggest democracy starting on Monday. Business leaders will accompany her on her three-day visit to New Delhi and Mumbai, during which she will meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A government official said German firms wanted to boost ties in newer areas such as environmental technology and software as well as machinery, electrical engineering and chemicals. Polls see first-round win for Argentine first lady

BUENOS AIRES, Oct 26 (Reuters) Argentine first lady and Sen. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner will win Sunday's presidential election without the need for a runoff, according to nine polls published in newspapers today. Nine of 10 polls showed Fernandez winning in the first round of voting. To do so, candidates must win more than 45 per cent of the vote, or more than 40 percent with a 10 percentage point advantage over the closest rival. Longtime legislator Elisa Carrio gained ground.....
