MMRDA to conduct survey on Nirmal Abhiyan

Mumbai Oct 26 (UNI) Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will take a survey in all the 7 Municipal Corporations and 13 Municipal Councils in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in a bid to implement the Nirmal MMR Abhiyan, on increasing the number of public toilets.

Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, Ratnakar Gaikwad has urged all Municipal Corporations and Municipal Councils to pass the agenda in their respective annual general meetings and also take into confidence their local leaders to facilitate the implementation of the program without any hurdles.

A meeting of 7 Municipal Corporations and 13 Municipal Councils officials was held at the MMRDA headquarters today, under the chairmanship of Ratnakar Gaikwad. Joint Metropolitan Commissioner MMRDA, Milind Mhaiskar also attended the meeting.

Mr. Gaikwad said MMRDA was ready to give all help to Nirmal Abhiyan, but Municipal Councils and Corporations should have to provide the space, water and employment.

The survey work for the Nirmal MMR Abhiyan will start next week. The appropriate place will be decided, and work will begin in earnest, once the NGO is selected and peoples participation increases. At the meeting, Gaikwad took advise on the number of toilets and bathrooms needed in the MMR and assured all help. MMRDA will work on Water Resources and Solid Dispersal.

Along with Mumbai, all Municipal Corporations and Council have a problem of dumping grounds to which Gaikwad suggested that Municipal Corporations and Council should reserve a place for the purpose. He also suggested the construction of new roads, to connect the Municipal Corporations areas and Council. If the Municipal Council and Corporation gives the land, MMRDA will invest Rs.100 crore in buying the land and develop commercial and economic zones, said Mr.

Gaikwad.

MMRDA will also make a contribution to help in maintaining the heritage structures in the MMR, he added.
