Minister Kandasamy being ignored: Dalit Committee

Puducherry, Oct 26 (UNI) The Steering and Monitoring Committee of Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan today charged Dalit Minister M Kandasamy was being ignored by the Puducherry Administration in all aspects.

Talking to newspersons here, President of the Committee and Former Legislator Neelagangadharan said considering the seniority of Mr Kandasamy he should have been given the status of the third Minister.

Moreover, in order to scale down his powers, the free rice scheme which was hitherto implemented through the Social Welfare Department under his control had been shifted to the Civil Supplies Department and he had been allotted a cabin in the first floor of a building where old aged persons and physically handicapped had no access.

There was no progress in his efforts to provide polyester sarees to Dalit women for Deepavali festival, Mr Neelagangadharan said.

He demanded the Administration to take immediate steps to redress the grievances of the Dalit community.

Mr Neelagangadharan charged that funds from the centre for the development of the Adi Dravidar People were being diverted to other departments.

As 16.19 per cent of the total population were Dalits, Rs 250 crore should have been allotted to ensure SC welfare. But the Administration had allotted only Rs 150 crore, he alleged.

Dalits were being ignored for all higher posts in health, police and PWD departments, he concluded.
