IT sleuths raid Reddy and Sriramulu's residences, offices and mines

Bellary, Karnataka, Oct 26 (UNI) A large contingent of Income Tax Department officials, backed by police force today conducted simultaneous raids on the offices, homes and mines belonging to a number of mine owners in Bellary, Sandur and Hospet in this district today.

The day-long raid was conducted on homes and offices belonging to former Karnataka Tourism Minister Sriramulu, member of Parliament G Karunakara Reddy, his brother and MLC G Janardhana Reddy, district BJP chief Somashekar Reddy and many of their relatives.

Official sources said the raids on about 50 locations that began simultaneously. However, the nature of seizure was not immediately known. Officials barred the media from going near the homes and office as police had put barricades. IT officials in Bangalore refused to reveal the details of the raids.

IT officials, who arrived with police force from Bangalore and Davanagere, swung into action early in the morning and stayed till late in the evening.

Mr Sriramulu speaking to reporters in Bellary accused that the raids were the result of the BJP leaders from the district exposing the 'corrupt' ways of former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and his family.

Expressing same views Janardhana Reddy said he had not evaded paying any tax and all his accounts was in perfect order. The officials were free to carry out their work, he said.

Man sentenced to death for murdering wife

Tiruvallur, Oct 26 (UNI) The Tiruvallur District Court today awarded life sentence to a 28-year-old man for strangulating his wife to death, after she failed to bring dowry. Holding that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt, District Judge Nagaraj awarded two years rigorous imprisonment to the man's parents, cited as co-accused in the case. Rs 76 crore worth essential commodities seized in AP

Hyderabad , Oct 26 (UNI) Enforcement and Task Force Teams headed by Civil Supplies Department officials today conducted surprise checks and raids on fair price shops, LPG outlets and petrol bunks and seized Rs 76.16 crore worth essential commodities. According to an official release here, 3,306 cases were registered for violation of various control orders, throughout the state, from January one till date. Blast convicts legal battle now shifts to apex court

Mumbai, Oct 26 (UNI) With all but one convict in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case receiving copies of the final verdict by the designated TADA court, the next round of the legal battle in this case is now set to shift to the apex court, which will now hear the petitions of these convicts, challenging the TADA court judgement.
