Haryana among first states to launch ARSH programme

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) Haryana has become one of the first states in the country to launch the Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) programme.

This was stated by Ms Navraj Sandhu, Commissioner and Secretary (Health) while inaugurating a state level Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) Programme workshop at Panchkula near here.

She said the main objective of ARSH programme was to mobilise rural youth for not only generating awareness among them regarding various adolescent issues but also providing easy access to a comprehensive health services to the adolescent, especially in and out of school and also married adolescents.

In the pilot phase, the ARSH programme was being launched in eight districts in Haryana, including Rohtak, Sonepat, Gurgaon, Rewari, Bhiwani, Kurukshetra, Jind, YamunaNagar, she added.

Mr Sandhu said the programme would be implemented through mother NGOs in these districts and counselling services and adolescent friendly health services would be provided.

In the pilot phase, the programme would be available in 47 health institutions comprising one district hospital, two community health centres, four primary health centre and 40 sub-centres.

The one-day workshop was attended by District School Medical Officers, District Programme Officers, mother NGOs from districts and other nodal officers from the state.

Teenage girl raped, murdered

Gulbarga, Oct 26: In a gruesome incident, a teenage girl was raped and murdered at Valakandi village in Bidar district today. Police said some unidentified persons raped the girl and strangulated her to death yesterday. The semi-naked body of the girl was found abandoned on a road. The police suspects that the girl, belonging to Gulbarga city, was brought here by the culprits. Superintendent of Police Balusubramaniam and DSP P A Korwal visited the spot to take stock of the incident......

Inmate injured at MP Jail

Betul, MP, Oct 26: An inmate was severely injured by three others and a constable at the District Jail due to festering enmity, police said. Anurag Mishra was admitted to the District Hospital last evening as he was beaten up and hit with a blade. A case was registered against inmates Rika Pande, Subhash Malviya, Rajendra and Constable Giriraj Baraskar. UNI.....

Bonus for CITCO employees

Chandigarh, Oct 26 (UNI) The Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO) has announced a bonus of Rs 11,500 for its employees as a Diwali gift in recognition of their services. The CITCO has showed a record profit of Rs 16.6 crores during 2006-07, surpassing all its previous performances. It also showed an increase in the turnover to Rs 290 crores from Rs 273 crores in 2005-2006. The Board of Directors under the Chairmanship of Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, applauded.....
