Hailstorm creates havoc in Arunachal villages

Itanagar, Oct 26 (UNI) A cyclonic storm followed by hailstorm has caused damage of property worth Rs one crore to the people of Sille Oyan circle in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

Official sources here today said the cyclone, which hit the area on October 19 last had left a trail of destruction with heavy rain and hailstorm for a couple of days.

Sources also informed that Mangnang, Sille, Sika-Tode and Sika-Bamin villages were the worst affected.

Large number of trees were uprooted and houses destroyed. Scores of bamboo clumps and banana groves and other plantation were also damaged.

Five granaries have been completely damaged while 52 were partially damaged, the sources informed.

About 350 farmsteads and cattle sheds were crushed and about 400 hectares of standing paddy have been completely damaged in the cyclone and the subsequent hailstorm.

IT sleuths raid Reddy's residence, office and mines

Bellary, Karnataka, Oct 26 (UNI) Income Tax Department officials today conducted raid on the office, residence and mines belonging to Member of the Karnataka Legislative Council G Janardhana Reddy. According to initial information, over 100 officials from Davanagere, with the assistance of local police, began conducting raid simultaneously on the houses of many of the relatives of Mr Reddy and his Rukmini Steels and Obalapur Mines in the District bordering Andhra Pradesh.
