EC issues showcause notice against BJP MLA

Gandhinagar, Oct 26 (UNI) Cracking a whip against BJP MLA Pradeep Singh Jadeja, the Election Commission has issued him a show cause notice against him for printing pamphlets showing photograph of himself and Chief Minister Narendra Modi with symbol of BJP (lotus) along side the photographs of ''Maa Amba'', ''Jai Ambe ni Arti'' and ''Vishvambhai stuti''.

The pamphlets were distributed in ''garba'' programmes during the Navratri festival.

Mr Jadeja, who represents Asarwa Legislative Assembly Constituency in Ahmedabad, has been asked to reply to the Commission by 1200 hrs on October 28.

Taking serious note of the act of Mr Jadeja, the Commission said the Model Code of Conduct provides that ''there shall be no appeal to caste or communal feelings for securing votes. Mosques, churches, temples or other places of worship shall not be used as forum for election propaganda''.

Pradeep Singh Jadeja, by his above acts, had violated the provisions of Model Code of Conduct, the Commission said in its notice.

''Now, therefore, Pradeep Singh Jadeja is afforded an opportunity to explain his position as to why action should not be initiated against him for his above act,'' the notice said.

All Up Harbour Line services between Panvel/Belapur and CST leaving Kurla from 1041 hrs to 1555 hrs will run via main line between Kurla and CST during the block period. Down Harbour Line services to Bandra/Andheri leaving CST from 1043 hrs to 1540 hrs and Up Harbour Line services from Bandra/Andheri to CST leaving Bandra/Andheri 1036 hrs.....

Woman escapes after giving birth to twins

Moradabad, Oct 26 (UNI) In a bizarre incident, a woman escaped after giving birth to twin daughters at a hospital here. According to sources, the woman was admitted to hospital after she experienced labour last night. She was rushed to labour room by the doctors, where she gave birth to twins. However, she hoodwinked the medical staff and fled leaving the infants. The identity of the mother, however, remained unidentified as she was admitted in an urgent condition. Meanwhile, the.....

Three women injured in police-Maoist encounter

Belpahari, West Medinipur, Oct 26 (UNI) At least three women were critically injured when they came under a crossfire between Maoist guerillas and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Belparahi in West Medinipur, about 210 km west of Kolkata today, official sources said. The encounter between the rebels and CRPF, that began at 1330 hours, was still continuing as reports came in, District Magistrate N S Nigam said. The gun battle began when a CRPF patrol van came under heavy firing.....
