Dabolim airport needs bigger passenger terminus: Shantaram

Panaji, Oct 26 (UNI) Dabolim airport in Goa should have a bigger integrated passenger terminus than the one being planned at 1,000 passengers per day, Member of Parliament Shantaram Naik said.

The daily traffic at the airport being around 4,000, Dabolim should have a passenger terminus for catering 70 at least 3,000 passengers, if on account of constraint of land availability, a bigger terminus cannot be constructed, he said in a statement here today.

M Naik said that he has been consistently delibegating with the Mopa airport Feasibility Committee that the Indian Navy had to produce the title documents of the land occupied by it at Dabolim including the land transferred by it to the Airport Authority.

Mr Naik said that he did realise the defence needs, but added that it was unfair that Navy did not vacate land which actually belongs to the Goa Government.

Navy had not produced any deed of transfer of the land in its favour nor there was any such deed in the records of the Government Goa.

The officials of the Goa Government, who were present during the first meeting of the Mopa Committee, had assured him that they will investigate into the title of the land and submit the information before the committee.
